Ken Garvin
Ken
was born and raised in New York City. He’s a graduate of
the City College of New York with a degree in
Communications. He moved to Southern Maryland in 1982
and began his career as a local radio personality. He
later became a sales associate for Channel 10 (cable
television) and now owns his own marketing company.
He’s married to the love of his life, Connie, and they
have two children. He’s been a Calvert County resident
since 1987.
Ken’s affiliation with Patuxent Playhouse began 4 years
ago with our collaboration on his first script, “Trust
In the Lord”, a powerful story of a street slick
gangster who finds the right path. Shortly after Ken was
asked to join the Patuxent Playhouse Board of Directors
where he now serves.
Ken’s second production with PPI was “Husbands and Wives
Revisited”, a hilarious take on the average American
family and the challenges they face. The show played all
over Southern Maryland and was wildly popular.
Ken's third production, "The
Project", was an original musical about the challenges
faced by a mischievous group of students trying to earn
their way to Florida, the destination of the school's
field trip. To become eligible, the students had to
learn to work as a T.E.A.M. (Together, Everyone,
Achieves, More) as they were pulled in various direction
in their attempt to come up with a "School Project" that
would please their Principal, parents and members of the
school board.
“I fell in love with theater after seeing my first
Broadway play. It was called Purlie Victories and I was completely
blown away by the acting, singing, and power of live
theater. It was a voluntary school trip, and to be
honest, I didn’t want to go, but any excuse to miss a
day of school sounded like a golden opportunity to me.
Little did I know, I would see, hear, and discover the
magic of theater.”
“A book I read says, that with the right source, “All
things are possible!” And if you don’t believe that just
keep in mind that a musical can be written by a person
who has never taken a music class, doesn’t know one
musical note from the next, never played or studied an
instrument…but just believed in the power of a dream and
tapping into the right source.
“Dream Big! Believe Big!
Find and
tap into
the right source!”
